The Bono Regional Police Command has refuted claims of a high-profile robbery incident allegedly captured in a viral video circulating across social media platforms.
The video suggested a major robbery took place on the Berekum–Drobo Road on November 18, 2025.
In a press statement released on November 20, the police command confirmed that after comprehensive checks, no credible evidence exists to back the sensational claims made in the circulating footage.
The Bono Regional Police Command detailed the steps taken to verify the widely shared video.
The investigation involved rigorous cross-referencing across multiple security agencies and jurisdictions:
- Preliminary checks were conducted across all Police Stations within the Bono Region.
- Verification was expanded to all Police stations nationwide.
- Checks were also run with the Ghana Armed Forces.
The official finding, as confirmed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command, is that “no such incident has been reported” anywhere in the country.
The police are urging anyone who may possess genuine information or evidence related to the alleged robbery to come forward immediately to assist with ongoing enquiries.
“We would like to urge anyone with credible information regarding the alleged incident to report to the nearest Police station to assist with ongoing enquiries.”
Concurrently, the authorities are taking immediate action to trace the origin of the false publication.
The Cyber Crime Unit has been tasked with investigating the matter, sending a strong warning against the dissemination of unverified content.
“The Cyber Crime Unit is taking steps to identify and invite individuals behind the publication of the video to assist with ongoing investigations into the matter, and anyone found culpable would be made to face the law.”
The Command concluded its statement by cautioning the public against publishing and sharing unverified material, stressing the need for responsibility in the digital age. “The Command would like to caution the public against publication of false news.”
The incident underscores the growing challenge security agencies face in combating misinformation and fake news that can cause unnecessary panic, divert critical police resources, and potentially undermine public trust in the security situation along major corridors like the Berekum–Drobo Road.
