NPP race: January 31 election isn’t a joke; Bawumia is our best bet – Otchere Baafi to delegates

Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Otchere Baafi

The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Otchere Baafi, has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to rally firmly behind former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s pivotal flagbearer election scheduled for 31 January 2026.

Addressing delegates in Koforidua, Otchere Baafi underscored the significance of the upcoming primary, describing it as one of the most critical internal elections in the party’s history.

He insisted that the NPP needs a candidate who is fully prepared, widely known, and capable of leading the party’s quest to recapture power in the 2028 general election.

“The 31 January election is not a joke. It is crucial, and we need an experienced person. We need someone who has been well-marketed and is well known by Ghanaians. That person is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.

The MP highlighted Dr Bawumia’s unwavering loyalty to the party, recalling the former Vice President’s commitment during challenging periods.

According to him, Dr Bawumia stands out as the most competitive and widely accepted candidate among the five contenders, including Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Mr Otchere Baafi further emphasised that electoral victory begins at the grassroots, urging polling station executives and local party members to work collectively towards a strong showing in the national elections.

“Politics is local, so the responsibility lies with all of us at the polling station level. It is a collective effort. Let us come together and work hard for the NPP to reclaim power. And the only person who can help us win easily is the experienced and well-marketed Dr Bawumia,” he added.

He expressed optimism that unified support for Dr Bawumia would strengthen the party’s chances of returning to government in 2028.
