The Government of India and the African Union have agreed to postpone the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS IV), which was scheduled to be held in New Delhi from May 28 to 31, 2026, following consultations over emerging public health concerns in parts of Africa.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, May 21, both sides said discussions were held between the Government of India, the Chairperson of the African Union and the African Union Commission on the timing of the high-level summit and related meetings.
The summit was expected to bring together African heads of state, government officials and key stakeholders from both regions to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, development, security and healthcare.
However, concerns over the evolving public health situation across parts of the continent led to a reconsideration of the planned dates.
Both parties said they had reviewed the current health situation and reaffirmed the need for continued cooperation to strengthen health preparedness and response systems across Africa.

India also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Africa’s public health systems, including continued collaboration with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and national health institutions across the continent.
The country expressed solidarity with African nations and pledged its readiness to back Africa CDC-led initiatives aimed at tackling emerging health threats through an Africa-led response framework.
Following consultations between both sides, it was agreed that postponing the summit would allow for broader participation by African leaders and stakeholders, while also ensuring more meaningful and effective engagement.
Fresh dates for the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit, together with related meetings and activities, will be announced later after further consultations between India and the African Union.
Despite the postponement, both parties reaffirmed the strength of their longstanding partnership, which they said continues to be built on solidarity, mutual respect and South–South cooperation.
They also reiterated their shared commitment to promoting peace, development, prosperity and the welfare of their people.
