Exchequers capped off the 2025 hockey season with a decisive and well-deserved triumph, lifting the prestigious Greater Accra Hockey Knockout Trophy after a 2-0 victory over Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in the final on Saturday at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.
The knockout competition has long been regarded as an opportunity for teams to redeem their season, especially for those unable to secure strong league finishes. It provides a final chance to deliver glory for their supporters and reaffirm their ambition.
Yet standing in the way was Exchequers, an opponent many teams have come to recognise as the ultimate test. Their consistency, tactical intelligence, and resilience have repeatedly ended the hopes of challengers.
This year was no different. Legonites, Arkmen, and Ghana Police all entered the competition with aspirations of claiming the trophy, but their journeys ended prematurely. Ghana Police were overpowered by Ghana Army, while Ghana Prisons fell to GRA, setting the stage for a much-anticipated final.
Of all the contenders, GRA appeared most determined to dethrone Exchequers. Their confidence grew after Exchequers eliminated Ghana Army in the quarter-finals, and they hoped for a smoother path to their long-desired title. But the final brought no such fortune.
Exchequers delivered a dominant and composed performance, controlling the crucial stages of the match before breaking through in the last quarter. Emmanuel Akaba struck first, and Emmanuel Quansah added a second to secure a 2–0 victory and seal the championship.
Over the years, Exchequers have firmly established themselves as the benchmark in Ghanaian hockey, consistently performing at a level that reflects both excellence and ambition.
