The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has announced that the Teshie Traditional Council will receive a new bus early next year, following a pledge made by an anonymous benefactor.
Speaking during her official visit to the Council on Tuesday, December 2, the Minister revealed that the individual privately approached her during the meeting and committed to donating the bus by January.
“Regarding the traditional bus mentioned by our chief, while I was seated here, an individual who asked me not to disclose his identity said we should give him until January, by which time he will come and donate a bus to the Council,” Mrs Ocloo stated.
The pledge brings relief to the Council, which has long appealed for a dedicated vehicle to support its administrative and ceremonial duties.
Mrs Ocloo used the visit to reiterate that her tour of traditional councils across the region forms part of her core mandate as Regional Minister. She dismissed claims by some media outlets that her engagements should be halted due to contested chieftaincies.
“My intention is not to visit contested chiefs, but to visit the traditional councils in my capacity as Regional Minister,” she clarified, stressing that her visits aim to strengthen cooperation between government and traditional authorities.
The Minister also addressed wider developmental and security concerns. She referenced ongoing investigations into the violence recorded during the recent Homowo festival, where six lives were lost, and urged traditional leaders to champion peace.
“As we approach the festive season, we urge the various councils to draw our attention to any security concerns to foster peace and stability,” she said.
Mrs Ocloo further assured the Council that she would work with the Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, Benjamin Ayiku, to engage the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Energy Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, on securing a transformer to restore power to the Council.
