The Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Samuel Appiah Darko, says recent actions by private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu risk weakening the efforts of the OSP.
According to him, such conduct creates distorted public perceptions and could embolden individuals being investigated by the office.
Speaking on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, Mr Darko stressed that the OSP remains fully committed to its mandate despite the controversy.
“Anytime we find consistent coordinated attacks on an office like the OSP, it is not the office that they are attacking; it is the people of Ghana that they are attacking. Because we are in the midst of many investigations, seizing millions of assets, and asking people who have taken so much money from the Republic to return it. And it is biting hard. The bad guys are the happy ones now, and I am sure that they are so happy that the office that is supposed to put them on trial, the office that is investigating me, is under a serious attack, and I am sure that is all that they wanted to achieve,” he said.
He assured the public that the office will remain focused and undeterred.
“But the Office will remain very focused,” he emphasised.
Mr Darko further revealed that the OSP is currently handling 33 high-profile criminal cases, underscoring the agency’s ongoing pursuit of accountability.
“As we speak, the Office is prosecuting high-profile persons, about 33 people standing trial…. In terms of the work of the Office, the Office is doing it,” he added.
