The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that midfielder Kwasi Sibo remains firmly in the plans of the Black Stars technical team and is likely to earn a call-up in the near future.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday night after releasing Black Stars squad for next month’s World Cup 2026 qualifying matches against Chad and Mali, Asante Twum revealed that the coaching staff, led by Otto Addo, has been monitoring Sibo’s progress closely and is pleased with his recent performances and work rate.
“Kwasi Sibo will get his chance soon,” he stated.
“The technical team has been monitoring him and is impressed with his work rate. Although they opted to maintain the core team following recent performances against Chad and Madagascar, Sibo is on their radar and will likely get an opportunity soon.”
Sibo, who has been putting in solid performances for his club, Real Oviedo, was notably absent from Ghana’s recent World Cup qualifying matches and won’t be available on September 4 and 8 when the national team lines up against Chad and Mali.
Meanwhile, Asante Twum also provided an update on winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who is recovering from a long injury layoff, including an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
While the Leicester City forward has returned to action, the Black Stars technical team is adopting a cautious approach to his reintegration.
“Otto Addo and his team are pleased to see him back in action,” said Asante Twum.
“However, given the circumstances surrounding his long layoff, they are cautious about rushing his return. The medical teams from Ghana and Leicester City have had extensive discussions about the player and have decided to give him time.”
One specific concern influencing the decision is the playing surface for Ghana’s next international fixture. The match is scheduled to be played on an AstroTurf pitch in N’jamena, Chad — a condition that may not be ideal for a player recovering from a serious knee injury.
“One reason for this cautious approach is that the upcoming match’s AstroTurf pitch in N’jamena may not be suitable for Issahaku’s return following his recent ACL injury,” Asante Twum added.
Ghana will continue its World Cup qualification campaign in the coming months, and both players could play significant roles as the team looks to build on its recent momentum.
