Kpedze SHS to host launch of School Farm Initiative by President Mahama

The government is preparing to officially roll out the School Farm Initiative (SFI) at Kpedze Senior High School in the Ho West District of the Volta Region in the coming weeks.

This initiative, under the Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness is designed to turn senior high schools across the country into centers of food production, practical learning, and agricultural innovation.

It is being implemented in collaboration with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), the Ghana Education Service (GES), and the National Service Authority (NSA).

At a recent consultative meeting held at St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School in Accra, the Director for Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, described the project as a transformational step for both education and agriculture in Ghana.

He explained that the SFI will provide thousands of students with hands-on training in modern farming and agribusiness, thereby promoting entrepreneurship and improving employability in a country where youth unemployment currently stands at 14.7 percent.

Dr. Otokunor praised President John Mahama for his vision and commitment, crediting him as the driving force behind the programme

“We are deeply grateful to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his immense support in this mission to reset not only agriculture, but also agro-education in Ghana,” he said.

The launch at Kpedze SHS is expected to usher in a new era of integrating agriculture into education, reducing reliance on food imports, and equipping young people with critical skills to contribute to national development.
