The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the violence at the Omanjor Chief’s Palace during the Homowo Festival on Saturday, August 30.
In a statement released, Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, confirmed that Christian Saka Ahianyevi, aged 35, a private security officer, was arrested on August 30, and Newton Alotey, aged 26, a dispatch rider, was arrested on August 31, over their suspected roles in the Homowo Festival violence that claimed three lives and injured several others.

“In line with police procedures, 18 spent BB cartridges were retrieved from Newton Alotey, while Christian Saka Ahianyevi was found in possession of a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits.
All exhibits have been retrieved,” the statement said.

On the suspects’ current status, the Command revealed that “The suspects are in police custody, assisting with investigations, as police continue to maintain a strong security presence in the affected communities.”

The Command urged calm and cooperation from residents, saying, “We urge all factions and residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. Anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspects should contact the police emergency numbers 18555 or 191.”
