PAC to Investigate GH¢68.7bn Audit Irregularities, Ensuring Accountability — Konadu

A member of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Akwasi Konadu, has assured that the committee will conduct a detailed review of a recently referred audit report uncovering suspected irregularities, falsified records, and questionable payment claims.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Mr. Konadu said the committee will set a schedule for hearings once its leadership finalises the timeline. Individuals mentioned in the report will be invited to respond to the allegations.

“Our responsibility is to carefully examine the report and ensure all findings are properly interrogated. Those cited will have the opportunity either to confirm the issues raised or to clear their names,” he said.

Drawing on his experience on the committee, Mr. Konadu emphasised the importance of accountability in managing public resources. He noted that allegations alone are insufficient and that thorough examination is essential to establish the facts.

“I am one person who believes in accountability,” he added, assuring that every issue outlined in the report will be scrutinised.

He further stressed that the investigation will ensure that individuals involved in questionable transactions are held accountable, providing citizens with confidence that public funds are properly monitored.

The audit report, presented to Parliament on Tuesday, 10 March, was submitted by the Ministry of Finance through Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, on behalf of Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson.

It details suspected irregularities, falsified records, and questionable payment claims related to GH¢68.7 billion in government arrears and payables as of the end of 2024.

Following its presentation, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor referred the report to the PAC for detailed scrutiny and instructed the committee to complete its investigation within three weeks.
