Level 300 Nursing Student Wins GH¢50,000 Jackpot in Wotiriye Lottery

A Level 300 nursing student at St. Michael’s Nursing and Midwifery Training College has struck luck after winning a GH¢50,000 jackpot in the Wotiriye Lottery Game, just as she was about to give up on the mobile lottery.

Doziah Boateng said she had nearly stopped playing when she decided to give it one final attempt — a decision that paid off in a big way.

“I was starting to lose hope, but I decided to try one last time, and that last try paid off big time,” she said after being announced as the latest winner.

Boateng, who studies in the Bosomtwi District, received the prize during a presentation ceremony on Saturday, March 14, 2026. The cheque was presented by the game’s management team, led by customer service representative Hafsa Maud Hamidu.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the nursing student said she was completely unaware she had won until friends began calling to congratulate her.

“The announcement of my win came as a total bolt out of the blue. I wasn’t even watching the lottery results, so when my friends started calling to say I had won the Wotiriye lottery game, I thought it was a joke,” she explained.

Boateng said she initially doubted the news until she verified it herself.

“When I checked their social media page, I saw my number there, and later they called to officially inform me that I had won the GH¢50,000 bonus boost. To be honest, I thought they were scammers at first,” she added.

She later expressed appreciation to the organisers after they personally visited to present the cheque, saying the gesture reassured her of the game’s authenticity.

“I’m very excited and grateful to the management for being trustworthy. I can vouch that this lottery game is legitimate — if you win, they will definitely pay your prize,” she said.

Boateng said the money would help support her education and assist her in planning for future goals.

Meanwhile, Hamidu encouraged players who may have tried several times without success to remain hopeful.

“Lottery is a game of chance. All you need is determination, focus and a bit of hope — you could be the next winner,” she said.

She explained that Boateng initially doubted she would receive the prize, prompting the management team to visit her personally to present the cheque and reassure her.

According to the organisers, eight players have already won the guaranteed GH¢10,000 prize between January and mid-March this year. However, Boateng became the first to increase her winnings to GH¢50,000 after the final digit of her mobile number matched the Bonus Ball.

The lottery game, licensed by the National Lottery Authority, was introduced in Ghana in 2020. It allows players to use their mobile phone numbers as their lottery numbers.

Participants enter the draw using their phone numbers, after which a computer randomly selects one number each week to win a guaranteed GH¢10,000 prize. If the last digit of the selected number matches the Bonus Ball drawn later, the prize rises to GH¢50,000.

The draw takes place every Saturday at 7pm, with winners publicly announced. Since its launch, organisers say more than GH¢40 million has been paid out to winners across the country.
