‘False Sextortion’ Allegations: Achimota Housemaster Vows to Take Legal Action

An Achimota Senior High School Senior Housemaster, Mr. Emmanuel Hanson, has threatened legal action against a former student and her mother after a police forensic investigation found no evidence supporting allegations of “sextortion” made against him.

The controversy began in November 2025, when Mr. Hanson confiscated a mobile phone from Ms. Musah Hafsatu Osmanu, then a student at Achimota, in line with school regulations prohibiting the possession of such devices on campus.

After completing her WASSCE examinations, Ms. Osmanu reportedly contacted Mr. Hanson on 28 December 2025 to request the return of her phone. Mr. Hanson informed her that the device had already been handed over to the relevant school authorities, and the exchange escalated.

Shortly afterwards, Mr. Hanson said he received a call from a woman identifying herself as Ms. Osmanu’s mother, Madam Daayimatu Abdallah, followed by an audio message containing alleged threats directed at him. He subsequently reported the threats to the Achimota Police Station.

During the police inquiry, Ms. Osmanu and her mother alleged that Mr. Hanson had demanded sexual favours via WhatsApp as a condition for returning the confiscated phone. Printed screenshots purportedly showing such conversations were presented to the police and widely circulated on social media and Achimota School forums, accompanied by claims that Mr. Hanson had been arrested and disgraced.

Seeking to prove the authenticity of the alleged messages, Mr. Hanson petitioned the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and voluntarily submitted his mobile device for forensic analysis.

According to the police investigative report dated 11 March 2026, the examination found no WhatsApp conversations between Mr. Hanson and the MTN number attributed to Ms. Osmanu. The report stated that the forensic analysis “determined no WhatsApp conversation between the complainant (Mr. Emmanuel Hanson) and user of MTN number … (Musah Hafsatu Osmanu),” undermining the authenticity of the screenshots.

Following the release of the findings, Mr. Hanson has indicated his intention to pursue legal action over what he describes as fabricated allegations that have caused significant reputational harm.

His lawyer, Emmanuel Dei-Tumi Jr. of Kulendi@Law, said Mr. Hanson is considering all legal remedies under Ghanaian law and expects the police to investigate the origin and dissemination of the alleged screenshots.
