St. Martin’s Memorial Hospital Offers Free Surgeries and Screenings for Women in Odorkor

Women in Odorkor and surrounding communities are set to benefit from a major healthcare initiative as St. Martin’s Memorial Hospital launches a comprehensive programme offering free screenings and surgeries aimed at improving women’s health outcomes.

The programme, which began on March 9, provides free ultrasound screenings until March 31, 2026, followed by a month-long phase of gynaecological and obstetric surgeries from April 1 to April 30.

Hospital authorities say the initiative is designed to expand access to essential healthcare, particularly for women who may not be able to afford specialist care.

“We want to ensure that women have access to the care they need without worrying about cost,” the hospital said, emphasizing early detection and timely treatment of health conditions.

Services include free gynaecological surgeries, general health screenings, laboratory tests, and diagnostic scans to support accurate treatment.

To enhance service delivery, the hospital has partnered with visiting gynaecologists from abroad, who will work alongside local teams throughout the surgical phase. The programme will run on weekdays to allow more women to access expert care.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to present a valid National Health Insurance (NHIS) card. However, provisions have been made for those without active insurance, with Ghana Cards and even expired NHIS cards accepted to ensure broader access.

All services will be delivered at the hospital’s premises on Osei Kwame Church Road in Odorkor.

Health professionals say such initiatives are critical in addressing preventable conditions often left undiagnosed due to cost barriers and limited access to specialist care. Conditions targeted include fibroids, ovarian cysts, and other reproductive health complications.

By combining screening, diagnosis, and surgical treatment, the initiative offers a holistic approach to women’s healthcare, with a strong focus on prevention and early intervention.

Officials believe the programme will impact hundreds of women while encouraging a culture of regular health check-ups and proactive care.

The hospital says the initiative reflects its commitment to improving healthcare access and delivering life-saving services to underserved populations, urging women to take advantage of the opportunity to prioritise their health and seek timely medical attention.
