MTN Ghana is positioning itself as more than just a telecom operator, emerging as a key partner in the country’s economic and social development. Through substantial fiscal contributions, infrastructure investment, and community-focused initiatives, the company is making a tangible impact across Ghana.
In 2025, MTN Ghana paid a record GHS10.5 billion in direct and indirect taxes, up 22.6% from GHS8.6 billion in 2024. An additional GHS0.5 billion in fees, levies, and statutory obligations further reinforced the company’s status as Ghana’s top corporate taxpayer.
Despite economic challenges such as inflation and currency pressures, MTN Ghana maintained robust financial performance while continuing to invest heavily in the local economy. In 2025 alone, the company allocated approximately GHS6.4 billion in capital expenditure to expand network coverage and improve service quality nationwide.
The investments are set to deepen following a visit by MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita in early 2025, during which he announced plans to inject $1.1 billion into Ghana over three years, focusing on infrastructure and emerging technologies. Part of this expansion includes 500 new network sites in 2026, targeting connectivity gaps, particularly in peri-urban areas.
MTN Ghana is also driving financial inclusion through its Mobile Money (MoMo) platform, now serving over 19 million active users. The platform has enhanced access to financial services in underserved and rural communities, facilitating transactions such as money transfers, bill payments, and savings. The MoMo ecosystem also supports employment, with over 923,000 registered agents, including 423,000 active daily operators, providing young people in rural areas with vital entry points into the formal economy.
Beyond telecommunications, MTN Ghana is making significant contributions to social development through the MTN Ghana Foundation, which has invested over GHS100 million in 178 projects nationwide. In 2025, the Foundation awarded 500 scholarships, supporting students and teachers in critical fields including medicine, engineering, and ICT.
In healthcare, the Foundation’s “Save a Life” initiative has collected over 46,000 units of blood for hospitals nationwide. Infrastructure projects include a 60-bed maternity and neonatal centre at Keta Municipal Hospital and an upcoming Accident and Emergency block at Ho Teaching Hospital.
Education-focused projects include a STEM robotics lab at Mamfe Girls’ SHS and an ICT block at Yilo Krobo Senior High School. The company has also supported 450 micro, small, and medium enterprises through its Enterprise Support Programme.
As MTN Ghana marks its 30th anniversary in 2026, the company is transitioning into a broader digital services provider, emphasizing connectivity, fintech, and platform-based solutions. This shift aims to unlock opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive economic growth.
With continued investments across multiple sectors, MTN Ghana is playing a pivotal role in shaping the country’s digital landscape and broader economic future.
