Kevin Spacey Settles Civil Sexual Assault Cases Ahead of Trial

Actor Kevin Spacey has reached an out-of-court settlement with three men who had sued him, accusing the Oscar-winning star of sexual assault. The civil cases, which were scheduled for trial at the High Court later this year, are now on hold following the agreement.

The allegations against Spacey span from 2000 to 2013. The 66-year-old actor denies all wrongdoing and was previously cleared of nine sexual offence charges in a 2023 criminal trial.

Two of the men involved in the criminal proceedings subsequently filed civil lawsuits. One, identified only as LNP, claimed that Spacey “deliberately assaulted” him on around 12 occasions between 2000 and 2005. Another, referred to as GHI, said he met Spacey through a workshop at London’s Old Vic theatre and suffered “psychiatric damage and financial loss” following an alleged assault in 2008. Spacey served as artistic director of the Old Vic from 2004 to 2013.

The third accuser, Ruari Cannon, has waived his right to anonymity. Cannon, who appeared in Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth at the Old Vic in 2013, alleged that Spacey groped him at a post-show party. He also participated in Channel 4’s 2024 documentary Spacey Unmasked, calling the allegation “ridiculous” and insisting it never happened. Cannon previously reached a settlement with the Old Vic.

Earlier this month, lawyers for the claimants indicated that evidence from seven additional witnesses alleging similar behaviour would have been heard at trial. Details of the settlements between Spacey and the three men have not been disclosed.
