Aduana Family Petitions Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to Resolve Abesewa Chieftaincy Dispute

The Aduana family of Abesewa, a community in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region, has appealed to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene in a chieftaincy dispute they say is stalling development and disrupting peace in the area.

At a press conference, Kyeame Kwadwo Antwi, a royal of Abesewa and linguist of Abrenyase, alleged that one Kwabena Boateng had been unlawfully enstooled as chief by the family head.

He said the Aduana family strongly disputes the decision, describing the process as unclear and unacceptable.

According to him, the Asantehene had previously annulled an earlier enstoolment, a move that triggered tensions within the community.

He noted that the circumstances leading to the installation of a new chief were not properly communicated to key members of the royal family, deepening mistrust and division.

“The family does not recognise the decision taken by the Abusuapanin,” he said, urging Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to step in and ensure a fair resolution.
The family is therefore calling for all parties involved to be summoned to the Manhyia Palace to address the dispute and restore unity in the community.

Adding to the concerns, Kwasi Boakye, another member of the Aduana royal family, revealed that the chief of Abrenyase had earlier informed them of the resignation of the former Abesewa chief, Nana Subin, due to ill health.

However, he said that about a week later, he returned to find that the Abusuapanin had overseen the enstoolment of Kwabena Boateng, reportedly on the instructions of the Abrenyase chief, without consulting the wider family.

The development, he stressed, has deepened divisions within Abesewa and continues to hinder unity, progress and development in the community.
