Bono Regional Minister highlights NDC accountability drive and development projects

The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboah Esq., has reiterated the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s commitment to transparency and accountability in governance, stating that the party promised Ghanaians regular updates on government activities ahead of the 2024 elections.

Speaking at Duasidan, a community in the Dormaa Central Municipality, during the Accounting to the People Tour and an inspection of the Duasidan CHPS Compound project, the Minister said the initiative forms part of efforts by the Mahama administration to strengthen public trust in political leadership through openness and accountability.

According to him, within about one year and four months in office, President John Dramani Mahama has already initiated regional tours aimed at engaging citizens and inspecting ongoing development projects across the country, including in the Bono Region.

Mr. Addae Akwaboah explained that the exercise also allows him, as Regional Minister, to engage Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) directly on the progress of projects funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

He noted that the accountability drive is intended to ensure that public resources are properly utilised and that development projects meet the needs of local communities.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of development projects underway in the region, particularly the construction of school facilities and CHPS compounds with staff accommodation.

He argued that the achievements recorded within the current administration’s first year and four months compare favourably with projects undertaken during the previous government’s eight-year tenure, describing President Mahama as a visionary leader focused on national development.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Dormaa Central, Dominic Adoma Ameyaw, thanked the chiefs and residents of Duasidan for allowing the establishment of the municipality’s dumping site within their community after several other areas reportedly rejected the proposal.

According to him, the community’s cooperation contributed to the decision to establish a CHPS Compound there.

He also disclosed plans by the Assembly, in collaboration with the Regional Minister and other stakeholders, to support the construction of a guest house, restaurant, and canopy walkway at Duasidan.

The proposed projects, he said, are expected to boost tourism around the Duasidan Monkey Sanctuary and improve economic activities within the community.
