Dumsor: NDC Working to Fix Ghana’s Power Crisis – Youth Organizer Appeals for Patience

Kumi Asare, the Youth Organizer for the Dormaa Central Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has appealed to Ghanaians to remain patient as the government works to address the ongoing power challenges affecting parts of the country.

Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Mensah Abrampa on the GIFTS FM morning show, Mr. Asare described the current power interruptions as “Dum Siesie” rather than the widely used term “dumsor,” insisting that the government is making steady efforts to stabilise electricity supply nationwide.

According to him, the NDC remains the only political party with a proven track record of resolving Ghana’s energy challenges. He pointed to past investments in power generation and rural electrification projects as evidence of the party’s commitment and capacity to improve the country’s electricity sector.

Mr. Asare explained that the expansion of electricity to more communities has increased pressure on transformers and other infrastructure, making maintenance and repairs necessary. He said the ongoing repair works are partly responsible for the current fluctuations in power supply but assured that the situation would improve once the maintenance exercises are completed.

Meanwhile, Alan Afi Isaac, Presiding Member of the Dormaa East District Assembly, said the Ministry of Energy took swift action after the recent fire incident at Akosombo Dam, including the suspension of the Director of GRIDCo pending investigations.

He noted that the intervention had already produced positive results, citing what he described as nearly five days of stable and uninterrupted electricity supply.

Hon. Isaac further described the current “dumsor” situation as temporary, stressing that the government remains committed to resolving the challenges and improving power delivery across the country.

He also claimed that with the energy situation gradually improving, political attention was now shifting toward concerns over losses at the Bank of Ghana. According to him, many Ghanaians are already benefiting from the NDC’s “resetting agenda,” adding that the party remains confident of victory in the 2028 general elections.

He praised the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, stating that the NDC’s governance record could position any candidate chosen by the party strongly ahead of the next elections.
