The Economic Fighters League has announced plans to hold an African Unity Walk in Accra on Monday, 22nd September 2025, in commemoration of Ghana’s Founder’s Day and in honour of Pan-Africanist icon Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The walk, according to a press statement issued on Thursday, September 11 and signed by Commander-In-Chief (CiC) Ernesto Yeboah, is expected to draw at least 100 participants, and it is being organised in direct response to recent Afrophobic demonstrations in the country.
The group describes these incidents as “disturbing”, particularly in their expression of anti-African and anti-Nigerian sentiments.
“This walk seeks to counter the recent Afrophobic demonstrations in Ghana, which have highlighted disturbing anti-African and particularly anti-Nigerian sentiments. Our aim is to reaffirm the enduring spirit of Pan-African solidarity and unity that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah so powerfully championed.”
The march, the statement noted, is set to begin at Nkrumah Circle and proceed through Odawna and Ridge Hospital, ending at the African Union Roundabout.
The route itself is seen as symbolic, reflecting key spaces in Ghana’s capital linked to both national heritage and continental unity.
The Economic Fighters League urged the public and relevant stakeholders to support the event, describing it as an important moment to reflect on Nkrumah’s vision of a united Africa.
“We respectfully request your kind attention and cooperation in support of this important commemoration,” the statement read.
