As the blaze ravaging a warehouse in Laterbiokorshie in Accra enters its third day, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has assured the public that cooling operations are ongoing, and full extinguishment remains the priority.
The fire incident that erupted at Lartebiokoshie broke out on Tuesday, September 9, in the vicinity of the Salvation Army School, according to the GNFS.
In a post shared on its Facebook page, the GNFS said that firefighters were working to manage remaining pockets of fire.
Earlier in the operation, the smoke was so dense it severely reduced visibility.
However, after initial cooling efforts, the GNFS says the smoke levels are now beginning to drop.
“We are going to continue at this pace and ensure that this continues until the extinguishing medium gets to the bottom of where the fire has gotten to as far as the stockpile of these highly combustible substances,” the GNFS added.
They emphasised, “We are not leaving here until we are done with total extinguishment.”
According to the service, all measures are being taken to ensure the safety of both the public and the firefighting team.
Residents in nearby areas have been advised to stay clear of smoke plumes and to heed any guidance from authorities should further precautionary evacuations be needed.
