The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has handed over medical supplies and equipment valued at $1.5 million to the Ga North Municipal Hospital.
He said the move reflects the government’s commitment to improving existing health facilities across the country.
The Minister explained that the presentation followed an unannounced visit, where it became clear that the hospital was struggling without some essential tools.
“The gesture followed a surprise visit where it was discovered that the hospital was operating without some critical resources,” he said.
More than 30 items were presented, including anaesthesia machines, incubators, nebulisers, ECG machines, steam sterilisers, stethoscopes, hospital beds, delivery sets, and ward screens.
“This is capital investment, and I urge hospital authorities to ensure proper maintenance and effective use of the equipment for the benefit of patients.”
He further explained that health care delivery rests on three key pillars; personnel, infrastructure, and equipment. In his view, it is “unwise to allow existing facilities to deteriorate while focusing only on new construction.”
The Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Victor Caesar, expressed deep appreciation on behalf of staff.
He highlighted the urgent need for some of the donated items, particularly the anaesthesia machines.
“Staff are overjoyed and relieved to finally receive the equipment, especially the anaesthesia machines, which we have urgently needed for years,” he said.
Dr Caesar also gave an assurance that the hospital would take good care of the supplies. “The equipment will be well maintained, as the facility has a strong culture of preserving and maximising the use of medical resources,” he added.
