'Go to Bawku’ – NPP supporters tell police after Abronye’s one-week remand

Angry supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Friday hurled invectives at the police after the Accra Circuit Court 9 remanded the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, into custody.

He is set to reappear before the court on September 19.

The visibly agitated supporters, who had massed up outside the courthouse, hooted at police officers and chanted slogans, accusing them of harassment and selective justice.

Many shouted “Go to Bawku!” suggesting that the police should rather focus on addressing the persistent security crisis in the Upper East town instead of pursuing Abronye.

Abronye had been arrested last week and arraigned on charges of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.

His detention has stirred controversy, with his loyalists insisting that the case is politically motivated.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has maintained that its actions are in line with the law and has urged the public to remain calm as the case proceeds.
