Achimfo unveils annual “ACHIMFEST” to drive community development

Achimfo, a fast-growing community in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region, is pushing for improved development through a new annual initiative led by its traditional leaders and youth.

The community, which continues to face challenges such as limited infrastructure, has launched a festival dubbed ACHIMFEST as part of efforts to mobilise resources for development. The maiden edition of the festival attracted several dignitaries, including the Member of Parliament for Aowin, Hon. Oscar Ofori Larbi.

Speaking to the media, the chief of Achimfo, Nana Oppong Panin II, said the festival was born out of the urgent need to address key development gaps in the area, including the lack of a police station, a proper market, and access to potable water.

He noted that ACHIMFEST has come at the right time, adding that the community is hopeful it will help draw attention and support for its pressing needs. He also appealed directly to the MP and relevant authorities to prioritise development projects in the area.

Hon. Oscar Ofori Larbi praised the chief and the youth for taking such an initiative, describing it as a model other communities could emulate. He encouraged young people in Achimfo to remain focused and continue to trust in government efforts to improve their livelihoods.

Chairing the event, Mr. Ebenezer Obiri, Chief Executive Officer of Litmus Group of Companies, also addressed the gathering. He noted that mining remains the main source of livelihood for many residents, a practice passed down through generations.

He stressed that many of the miners operate with valid licences and do not work in water bodies or forest reserves, expressing concern that continued military interventions in the area were affecting livelihoods and creating tension within the community.
