Africans Communicating Africa Launches Movement to Strengthen African Narratives

Africans Communicating Africa (AfriComms Africa), a pan-African foundation focused on promoting authentic African storytelling and developing the next generation of African communicators, is set to officially launch in Accra on May 26.

The launch, which coincides with this year’s Africa Day celebrations, will bring together communication professionals, media practitioners, creatives and thought leaders to discuss Africa’s global image and how Africans can take greater control of the continent’s narrative in an increasingly AI-driven world.

The event is expected to feature seasoned professionals from academia, corporate communications, governance, diplomacy, the media and the creative arts, who will share perspectives on how Africans can shape conversations around sustainability and climate communication, political communication, corporate communication and diplomacy.

Discussions will also focus on the growing influence of youth-led digital storytelling in shaping Africa’s identity, voice and future on the global stage.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Georgina Asare Fiagbenu described the summit as a strategic platform aimed at encouraging bold conversations, collaboration and fresh perspectives among African communicators.

“The Communicating Africa Summit brings together and showcases leading voices in Ghana and across Africa from different communication spaces, reflecting the evolving landscape of African storytelling,” she said.

“Africa has never lacked communicators. What Africa needs are alternative, rich spaces where communicators can come together to exchange ideas, challenge perspectives, inspire new thinking and collectively shape the African narrative.”

According to organisers, the launch marks the beginning of a broader movement focused on strengthening Africa’s narrative power and building a strong community of professionals committed to telling African stories with confidence, authenticity and purpose.

African communicators, media professionals, storytellers, creatives and institutions that believe in authentic African narratives are being encouraged to participate in the launch and contribute to the growing movement redefining how Africa tells its story to the world.
