The Member of Parliament for Berekum East, Simon Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, says he is unaware of any illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, taking place within his constituency.
Speaking to the media during the Kelpro Children Festival 2026, the MP stressed that neither his office nor that of the District Chief Executive, Hajia Fate Abubakar, has received any formal complaints or reports suggesting the presence of such operations in the area.
Mr. Kyeremeh revealed that he had also consulted his counterpart in Berekum West, Kwabena Kyere Dua Stugard, who confirmed that he, too, has not been notified of any alleged galamsey activities in his constituency.
While maintaining that no cases have been officially brought to their attention, the MP encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspected illegal mining. He added that individuals who encounter such activities should take the necessary steps to alert the authorities.
He reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the constituency, emphasizing that he will not condone any actions that could undermine the area’s development or well-being.
