Covenant FC crowned champions of Eddie Nketiah’s 2026 football tournament

Lower-tier side Covenant Football Club emerged champions of the 2026 Nketiah Foundation Football Tournament after edging Future Stars FC 1-0 in the final.

The one-day tournament, organised by Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah through the Nketiah Foundation, was held at the University of Ghana Stadium on Tuesday, June 9.

Six teams participated in the competition, with Covenant FC overcoming stiff opposition to claim the title. The other participating clubs were Future Stars FC, Kesewaa SC, Joma Smart FC, Teshie Mercury and Alpha FC.

Speaking after the tournament, Nketiah said the initiative was aimed at creating opportunities for talented young footballers in Ghana to showcase their abilities and attract attention from scouts and football stakeholders.

“There is so much talent in Ghana, and we wanted to create a platform for these players to express themselves and demonstrate what they can do,” he said.

The Crystal Palace forward also highlighted the foundation’s partnership with Under Armour, which enabled the donation of football boots and other resources to support young players in pursuing their football ambitions.

“We’re also working with Under Armour to give back by providing boots and improving access to facilities so these young players can continue chasing their dreams,” Nketiah added.

The tournament forms part of the foundation’s broader efforts to identify and nurture football talent while creating pathways for promising players to advance their careers.

Edward Nketiah Snr, father of Crystal Palace forward Eddie Nketiah, revealed plans to expand the initiative to other parts of Ghana in a bid to discover more young football talents and connect them with scouting opportunities.

As part of the tournament, every participating player received a pair of football boots courtesy of Under Armour, one of Eddie Nketiah’s sponsors. Representatives from Elite Project Sports Agency were also in attendance to assess players and identify promising talents for potential career opportunities.
