Defence Ministry Denies Claims of Military Land Allocation to Ibrahim Mahama

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has denied claims that military lands have been allocated to business executive Ibrahim Mahama for private development, describing the reports as false and misleading.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Mr Genfi urged the public to disregard the allegations, stressing that they do not reflect the facts on the ground.

He explained that the Ghana Armed Forces has instead embarked on a self-help housing initiative aimed at replacing ageing, colonial-era and deteriorated structures within Burma Camp in Accra.

“I wish to firmly dismiss and ignore any false and malicious reports suggesting that military lands have been given to the President’s brother to develop. That story is completely untrue,” he stated.

According to him, the actual initiative is focused on improving accommodation and welfare for military personnel through the redevelopment of existing facilities.

Mr Genfi further noted that as part of support for the project, Mr Ibrahim Mahama, Chief Executive Officer of Dzata Group Holding Limited, has donated GH¢120 million towards the construction of 10 residential blocks, each made up of 16 housing units.

He added that a fundraising luncheon held on Saturday at the Ghana Military Academy brought together stakeholders from corporate Ghana and partners of the Armed Forces. The event, chaired by Sir Sam Jonah, saw several donations and pledges in support of the initiative.

The Armed Forces expressed appreciation to all contributors, describing the project as a major welfare intervention aimed at improving living conditions for personnel who serve the country.

It also stressed that the initiative is strictly welfare-oriented and should not be misinterpreted as the allocation of military lands to private individuals.
