Dormaa Central chiefs appeal for school feeding expansion, teachers’ bungalow and KG block support

Traditional leaders in the Ahogono community in the Nsesreso electoral area of the Bono Region have appealed to the Bono Regional Minister to prioritise additional infrastructure and social support to improve education and general welfare in the area.

The appeal was made when the Regional Minister, accompanied by his entourage, visited the community to inspect an ongoing three-unit classroom project, including stores and a staff room, being funded through the MP’s Common Fund.

Community members acknowledged that the construction of the new JHS block had helped address some of their educational challenges. However, they noted that the absence of a teachers’ bungalow and a kindergarten block continues to affect teaching and learning.

Speaking on behalf of the chiefs, Anglican pastor Alex Dabie also called for the extension of the school feeding programme to benefit pupils in the community.

According to him, many pupils are currently not covered under the policy, a situation he said is negatively affecting school attendance and retention.

Dormaa Central Municipal Education Director, Prince Adom Danso, urged students to take their studies seriously and make productive use of technology.

He expressed concern over the growing misuse of the internet by some students, alleging that instead of using it for educational purposes, they spend time accessing inappropriate content online.

Mr Danso further appealed to the minister and the education directorate to incorporate teachers’ accommodation into future classroom projects to help address challenges with staff retention in rural communities.

Responding to the concerns, Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa disclosed that the government had increased the number of schools benefiting from the school feeding programme in Dormaa Central from 20 to 40.

He added that efforts were underway to include more schools this year.

The minister also announced that government plans to recruit more young people into public sector agencies once Ghana exits the IMF programme conditions expected by July.
