Enyan Abaasa Chief Urges Ghanaian Youth to Use Social Media to Promote Government Policies and Drive Development

The Paramount Chief of the Enyan Abaasa Traditional Area and Vice President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Okoamankra Kwame Akonu X, has urged young people in Ghana to use social media more productively by promoting government policies, development projects, and initiatives that support national growth.

He made the appeal during the 2026 Enyan Abaasa Ahobaa Festival and the official launch of the 2026 Akwambo Festival, held at Enyan Abaasa in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region.

Addressing chiefs, opinion leaders, residents, youth groups, and invited guests, the chief said social media has become a powerful tool that should be used to educate the public, raise awareness of government interventions, and highlight community development efforts.

He noted that many young people instead spend significant time online engaging in unproductive arguments and sharing negative content, rather than using the platforms to support national progress and showcase positive achievements.

Okoamankra Kwame Akonu X also called for unity among residents of Enyan Abaasa, stressing that peace and togetherness remain key drivers of development. He encouraged community members to support one another, especially when individuals take initiatives that benefit both the town and the wider nation.

He further cautioned that jealousy, division, and hatred can slow down development and urged residents to foster a culture of mutual encouragement and shared success.

In a related address, the Member of Parliament for the Kwesimintsim Constituency, Hon. Nicholas Fiifi Buckman Esq., also called on the youth to use social media responsibly and avoid insulting elders and leaders on online platforms.

He stressed the importance of discipline, respect, and humility, describing them as key values for personal success. He also encouraged young people to learn from the experience of elders and uphold positive moral standards.

Hon. Buckman expressed concern about the growing influence of social media on young people, warning that its misuse is gradually weakening their connection to Ghana’s cultural heritage and traditional values.

He urged the youth, particularly those in Enyan Abaasa, to remain respectful, protect their reputation, and actively contribute to preserving local customs and traditions.

The MP further encouraged them to leverage social media for education, entrepreneurship, networking, and community development, rather than using it in ways that could harm their future prospects.

The event was part of activities marking the 2026 Ahobaa Festival and the launch of the upcoming Akwambo Festival, aimed at promoting cultural heritage, unity, and development within the Enyan Abaasa Traditional Area.
