Gospel musician Florence Obinim has revealed that she would not oppose a divorce if her husband, Bishop Daniel Obinim, decides to formally end their 22-year marriage.
Her remarks follow recent comments by the founder of the International God’s Way Church, who publicly expressed dissatisfaction with their relationship, claiming he has become fearful of his wife and often feels distressed about returning home.
Responding to the statements, Florence Obinim said she has done everything possible to preserve the marriage and would not stand in the way if her husband believes separation is the best option.
According to her, she had already proposed a mutual separation about a month ago after several attempts to resolve their differences failed to produce the desired results.
“We have spent many years together as husband and wife. I told him that I have done everything humanly possible to make this marriage work, and if he is still unhappy, then we should agree to part ways amicably,” she said.
The gospel singer explained that she has made significant sacrifices throughout the relationship and believes there comes a point when both partners must prioritise their peace and well-being.
She said she has given her all to the marriage and cannot continue to shoulder the responsibility alone if her husband is no longer committed to making it work.
“I have sacrificed parts of my own happiness for him, and I believe I have reached my limit. I can only do my best and also take care of myself. The Bible says we should love our neighbours as ourselves, not more than ourselves,” she stated.
A visibly emotional Florence Obinim stressed that while she values marriage and remains committed to its principles, individuals must also protect their emotional and mental well-being when challenges become overwhelming.
“I cannot force him to stay. If he wants to leave, then he should do what he thinks is best. It is better for both of us to have peace,” she added.
She also appealed to pastors, family members and well-wishers to keep her husband in their prayers, expressing concern over what she described as behaviour that does not reflect Christian values.
Florence Obinim made the remarks during an interview with GHPage, further fuelling public speculation about difficulties in the couple’s long-standing marriage.
