GOIL PLC has officially launched its HSSEQ Week 2026, reaffirming its commitment to health, safety, security, environment, and quality standards across all areas of its operations.
The week-long programme, themed “Promoting a Positive Psychosocial Working Environment,” brings together staff, regulators, and key industry players to highlight the growing importance of both physical safety and mental well-being in the workplace.
Speaking at the launch, the Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Edward Abambire Bawa, stressed that health and safety remain central to GOIL’s operations. He noted that the company’s commitment is further demonstrated by its triple ISO certification, which reflects internationally recognised standards in quality and safety management.
The Head of HSSEQ explained that the initiative is aimed at deepening awareness of workplace safety practices, strengthening the company’s safety culture, and promoting overall employee well-being. Particular attention, he said, is being placed on emerging psychosocial risks that can affect productivity and staff welfare.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, praised GOIL for instituting the programme. He described it as a strong demonstration of the company’s commitment to safety and responsible operations, which ultimately benefits both shareholders and the wider public.

The unveiling of a new Staff HSSEQ Handbook by GOIL has been described as a major step toward strengthening safety standards across Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
The handbook is expected to serve as a model for other oil marketing companies, with industry leaders praising GOIL’s commitment to setting higher benchmarks beyond commercial performance.
According to officials, the initiative demonstrates that GOIL is not only focused on sales volumes but is also taking a leading role in safety, health, security, environment, and quality (HSSEQ) practices within the sector.
Other stakeholders, including the Chief Executive of Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, Dr Riverson Oppong, and a representative from the Environmental Protection Agency, commended the company for its strong safety culture and consistent regulatory compliance.
Delivering a keynote address, Dr. Robert Amesiya praised GOIL for expanding its workplace safety focus to include psychosocial well-being. He noted that effective occupational safety goes beyond physical protection and must also address employees’ mental and emotional health.
He encouraged the company to continue building supportive work environments that allow staff to perform effectively without undue psychological pressure.
The company’s HSSEQ Week 2026 will feature a series of activities aimed at reinforcing its culture of safety, employee wellness, and operational excellence.
GOIL says it remains committed to leading Ghana’s petroleum downstream sector with a focus on safe, responsible, and people-centred operations, delivering what it describes as “Good Energy” to customers and stakeholders.
