The Ministry for the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following a shooting incident in Kwabenya that left former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, hospitalised.
According to the Ministry, the decision was prompted by allegations that personnel of the private security company used unapproved uniforms and were found in possession of firearms and ammunition while providing security services during the incident on June 21, 2026.
In a statement issued on June 22, the Ministry said preliminary investigations had uncovered possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which governs the operations and conduct of private security organisations in Ghana.
The Ministry noted that the alleged breaches raise serious concerns about compliance with established regulations and have necessitated immediate administrative action pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

The Ministry explained that the decision followed preliminary investigations which revealed alleged breaches of regulations governing the private security industry.
According to the statement, the reported use of unapproved uniforms, the unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition, as well as the use of restricted security equipment by private security personnel, raise serious concerns about compliance with the law.
The Ministry noted that such actions constitute significant violations of the regulatory framework for private security operations and pose potential risks to public safety and national security.
It stressed that maintaining strict adherence to the laws governing the sector is essential to preserving public confidence and ensuring that private security services operate within established legal and professional standards.

As a result, the Ministry directed Kantanka Security Services Limited to immediately suspend all operations pending the outcome of investigations into the incident.
The Ministry also advised public institutions, private organisations, and individuals to refrain from engaging in any business transactions with the company until the investigations have been concluded and further directives are issued.
In addition, Kantanka Security Services Limited has been instructed to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service by providing all information and assistance necessary to support a comprehensive investigation.
According to the Ministry, the suspension is a precautionary administrative measure aimed at protecting public safety and maintaining security while the matter is being investigated.
It further indicated that appropriate action would be taken upon the conclusion of the investigations, in accordance with the laws and regulations governing private security operations in Ghana.
