“It’s about gratitude, not politics” – Asiedu Nketia defends thank-you tour

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has defended his ongoing nationwide “thank-you tour,” explaining that it is a deliberate effort to express gratitude to party members and supporters who contributed to the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

The tour, which began after the party assumed office in January 2025, represents the first major post-election engagement by the NDC Chairman. However, it has sparked public debate, with some political commentators questioning whether such tours are more appropriately undertaken by a presidential candidate rather than a party chairman, especially while the party is in power.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia made the remarks during the commissioning of the Lambussie Radio Station in the Lambussie Constituency of the Upper West Region, as part of his tour.

He dismissed the criticism, insisting that the initiative is rooted in the NDC’s tradition of appreciation and accountability to its supporters.

“Those who disagree with me can continue with that, and I will continue to honour my promise. That is why I am here,” he said. “It also aligns with our tradition that when you ask people for support and they deliver, the next step is to say thank you. That is why I have come to express my gratitude.”

He stressed that the tour is not intended as political spectacle, but rather a sincere appreciation of grassroots members, volunteers, and supporters who played a key role in the party’s return to power.

According to him, the NDC’s campaign strategy paid off, helping the party expand its influence and improve its vote share in several regions. He added that the parliamentary results also reflected significant progress compared to previous elections.
