Kristo Asafo Succession Row: Adwoa Safo Shot at While Serving Court Injunction – Family

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, was allegedly shot at while attempting to serve a court injunction on her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, amid an escalating succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission, according to a statement issued by the Kwadwo Safo family.

The incident reportedly occurred during efforts to stop a private ceremony that was allegedly intended to install Israel Safo as the new leader of the church founded by the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo.

In the statement, the family said Adwoa Safo, whom it described as the recognised head of the Kwadwo Safo family, was acting in accordance with a court order obtained to restrain the ceremony when the confrontation took place.

The family indicated that she is currently in stable condition and responding well to treatment following the incident.

The latest development is linked to a growing dispute over the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Prof. Kwadwo Safo, on September 11, 2025.

According to the family, some church elders and Israel Safo had organised a private installation ceremony aimed at formally declaring him the successor to the late founder.

However, the family stated that two members of the church challenged the succession process in court and secured an injunction to halt the ceremony pending the determination of legal issues surrounding the leadership transition.

The statement further alleged that several attempts to serve the court documents on Israel Safo were unsuccessful, prompting Adwoa Safo to personally deliver the injunction notice.

According to the family, tensions escalated during the attempted service of the court process, resulting in a violent confrontation.

“During the encounter, Mr. Israel Safo discharged a firearm multiple times in her direction and also instructed associates at the scene to open fire on her vehicle,” the family alleged in its statement.

The family cited witness accounts indicating that gunfire erupted at the venue, while reports circulating after the incident suggested that about 15 rounds of ammunition may have been discharged.

It added that the matter has since been reported to the Ghana Police Service and other state security agencies for investigation.

Succession Dispute Deepens

The alleged shooting marks the most serious development so far in the succession dispute that has engulfed the Kristo Asafo Mission since the passing of its founder.

According to the family, Apostle Kwadwo Safo had initially designated Israel Safo as his successor in 2017 and entrusted him with significant responsibilities within the church and its affiliated businesses.

However, the family claimed that the arrangement was revoked in 2024 following concerns about the management of some entities associated with the mission and what it described as deviations from the founder’s vision and principles.

The statement further asserted that the late Apostle subsequently appointed Adwoa Safo as head of the family and established a succession structure that excluded Israel Safo from consideration for the church’s top leadership position.

The family therefore maintained that it does not recognise any installation or assumption of leadership that contradicts what it described as the founder’s final directives.

Amid the rising tensions, the family appealed to members of the Kristo Asafo Mission, supporters, and the general public to remain calm and allow the courts to determine the issues at the centre of the dispute.

It also called on state authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the shooting allegations and ensure accountability should any wrongdoing be established.

The family emphasised that the succession dispute must be resolved through lawful and constitutional processes rather than confrontation or violence.
