A pastor has been arrested in connection with the alleged attempted burial of a five-month-old baby alive at Abofrem in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, Richmond Akwasi Frimpong, who is the Head Pastor of Anointed Grace Prayer Ministry at Kuffour Camp, was picked up by police after the incident, which has left residents in shock.
According to eyewitness accounts, the pastor and another individual were seen around 11 p.m. at a refuse dump under suspicious circumstances, with the infant in their possession.
An eyewitness, Winfred Agbah, said he intervened after noticing unusual activity in the area and later discovered that the baby was still alive and appeared to be on the verge of being buried.
He quickly raised an alarm, prompting others to intervene and prevent what could have been a tragic outcome.
The Chief Linguist of Abofrem, Nana Yaw Badu, confirmed that the suspect had earlier informed him that the child was dead, which led to initial discussions about burial arrangements. He said he was unaware at the time that the baby was still alive.
The baby girl is currently receiving treatment at a government hospital.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of the pastor and his accomplice, who are assisting with investigations into the incident.
