World Health Day: Assin North DCE Urges Daily Sanitation Habits to Boost Healthy Living

Residents of Assin North have been urged to adopt cleanliness as a daily habit rather than an occasional activity, as part of efforts to improve public health and protect the environment.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Sylvester Amakye-Nyarkoh, made the appeal after leading a large-scale clean-up exercise across three electoral areas to mark World Health Day.

He stressed that good sanitation practices must be consistently observed and passed on to children to help prevent disease and promote healthier communities.

The exercise took place in Assin Odumase, Afenase-Wawase, and Assin Asibirem, drawing participation from traditional leaders, assembly members, residents, and Environmental Health Officers from the District Assembly.

Hon. Amakye-Nyarkoh explained that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Assembly to create a cleaner and safer environment, while also encouraging stronger community involvement in sanitation management.

In an interview, he noted that the clean-up campaign aligns with the broader vision of President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise sanitation and public health nationwide.

He added that sustained efforts like these would help reduce sanitation-related diseases, improve general wellbeing, and limit environmental pollution.

The District Environmental Health Director, Mr Samuel Eklu Fiankor, also underscored the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness.

He cautioned that authorities would enforce sanitation regulations and take action against offenders where necessary.

Meanwhile, the Queen Mother of Assin Asibirem, Nana Asabea, praised the DCE for his dedication to improving sanitation in the district. She, however, called for additional support, including the provision of dustbins and tools to support communal labour.

She also appealed for more job opportunities for women in the area to help improve their livelihoods.
