A man believed to be in his late 30s is in critical condition after allegedly inflicting severe injuries on himself at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality.
According to information gathered by Bigstuffmediagh, ohemaa Sarfowaa, the victim, whose identity has been withheld, is a tiler from Kumasi who had been undertaking contract work in Mankessim alongside his apprentices.
Reports indicate that he resides at Ajumako Techiman and commuted daily to work in Mankessim.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, April 26, 2026, when the victim visited a friend’s residence in Mankessim to rest. While the friend was away, the man allegedly locked himself inside the room and injured himself using a tailoring machine.
Upon returning, the friend reportedly found the room locked and received no response after repeated knocks. Suspecting something was wrong, he forced open a window and discovered the victim lying in a pool of blood and in a critical state.
Neighbours were immediately called to assist, and the victim was rushed to Mankessim Roman Hospital before later being referred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Friends and apprentices of the victim told reporters they were unable to explain what may have led to the incident, stating that he had not shared any personal difficulties with them.
The matter has since been reported to the Mankessim Divisional Police for investigation, while the victim continues to receive medical care in critical condition.
