The Deputy Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, says concerns over the location of the proposed 24-hour economy market in Cape Coast have been resolved.
He dismissed reports of an impending demonstration allegedly being planned by the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Kwamena Mintah Nyarku, along with some residents and traders who were said to be calling for the project to be relocated to Cape Coast North.
According to Mr. Ricketts-Hagan, consultations with Hon. Mintah Nyarku and other key stakeholders have helped clear up misunderstandings and address internal concerns over the siting of the project.
Speaking after inspecting the project site on Saturday, he explained that the market forms part of the government’s broader 24-hour economy agenda aimed at stimulating economic activity, creating jobs and supporting small-scale businesses through extended trading hours.
He stressed that the project is intended to benefit the entire Cape Coast metropolis and not only Cape Coast South.
“There will be no demonstration. The issues that initially arose over the proposed location have been resolved through dialogue and internal discussions,” he said, urging the public to disregard what he described as misinformation circulating on social media and other platforms.
Mr. Ricketts-Hagan maintained that the market will be built at Ekon and that the proposed location will not change.
He added that the project, which is expected to include a government-backed factory, is designed to boost commercial activity in the metropolis while providing improved infrastructure for traders and consumers.
The lawmaker assured residents that authorities would continue engaging all interested groups to ensure transparency and inclusiveness throughout the implementation process.
He also highlighted the role of the Mayor of Cape Coast, George Justice Arthur, saying both of them remain committed to ensuring the smooth implementation of the project.
Mr. Ricketts-Hagan called on residents and stakeholders across the metropolis to support the initiative, expressing confidence that it will contribute significantly to economic growth and job creation in Cape Coast.
