An Accra Circuit Court has remanded an Okada rider accused of violently robbing a businessman of a gold necklace worth GH¢37,000.
The accused, Clifford Scott Nkrumah, is facing charges of robbery and causing harm after the alleged attack on Mr Manasseh Appiah-Nuako. He has denied conspiring with a second suspect, Sumaila Mumuni, also known as “Can do,” who is currently on the run.
Police Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu told the court that the incident happened on April 6, 2026, while the complainant, a businessman living at Ashongman Estate, was driving from Ashongman Estate towards Achimota.
According to the prosecution, the two men, armed with sticks, stones, and a knife, blocked the victim’s vehicle, forced him out, and assaulted him before taking his gold necklace.
Mr Appiah-Nuako sustained injuries during the attack and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Investigations further revealed that on April 8, 2026, the suspects sold the stolen necklace to a goldsmith at Kwame Nkrumah Circle for GH¢9,100.
After a police complaint was filed, Nkrumah was arrested. He is reported to have admitted the offences in his caution statement.
The goldsmith later handed the item over to the police after realising it was stolen, helping investigators recover evidence in the case.
The court has ordered Nkrumah to reappear on May 12, 2026, while police continue efforts to track down the second suspect.
