No Cocoa Funds Used for Aircraft Purchase — NDC Dismisses Allegations

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed allegations that government is diverting funds meant for cocoa farmers to purchase four aircraft for the President, describing the claim as false, irresponsible, and part of a wider political misinformation campaign.

The allegation was made by the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, during a tour of cocoa-growing communities. He reportedly claimed that resources meant for cocoa farmers were being used to finance the acquisition of presidential aircraft.

Reacting to the claim at the relaunch of the NDC’s “Setting the Records Straight” platform in Accra, the party’s Deputy National Communications Officer, Ako Gunn, firmly rejected the assertion, insisting it has no factual basis.

He described the allegation as “palpably false and highly irresponsible,” stressing that no public funds have been used for such a purpose.

According to Mr. Gunn, the opposition has resorted to misinformation following what he says is its inability to win public trust on key governance and policy issues.

He further argued that such narratives, especially when circulated in cocoa-producing areas, are intended to create misunderstanding and disaffection among farmers by linking government programmes to unverified claims.

Mr. Gunn added that the opposition’s communication approach has increasingly relied on what he called “half-truths and calculated propaganda” aimed at distorting public perception of government initiatives.

He explained that the relaunch of the “Setting the Records Straight” platform is meant to provide timely responses to such claims and ensure accurate information is made available to the public.
