Former Suaman District Chief Executive, Philip Kwabena Boahen, has criticised what he describes as growing intimidation and harassment of communicators and social media activists affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a press statement issued on May 15, 2026, Hon. Boahen expressed concern over what he alleged were politically motivated arrests carried out by some state security agencies under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
According to him, the actions appear aimed at silencing dissenting voices and weakening Ghana’s democratic space.
“The arrests and harassment of several NPP communicators and activists in recent times, including outspoken party communicators and social media advocates who have merely expressed their opinions on national issues, must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians,” portions of the statement said.
The former DCE stressed that democracy can only thrive where freedom of expression, tolerance for opposing views, and respect for political diversity are protected.
He warned against the use of state institutions and security agencies as tools for political persecution, insisting that such actions undermine democratic principles.
Hon. Boahen also assured NPP communicators, youth activists, polling station executives and party supporters that the party remained firmly behind them.
According to him, intimidation would not weaken the resolve of party members ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He urged party faithful across the country to remain courageous, disciplined and focused while continuing to engage the public on national issues.
“These intimidatory tactics will not be tolerated, and history will judge those who misuse state power against political opponents. Ghana belongs to all of us, and democracy must be protected at all costs,” he stated.
