Nsawam Prison Hosts Charity Event Featuring Black Stars Legends and Cultural Performances

Former Black Stars players are set to play a friendly match against inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison on Thursday, May 21, 2026, as part of a humanitarian outreach initiative aimed at offering hope and support to inmates.

The programme is being organised by the KN Foundation in partnership with the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA). It will combine football, music, health screenings, and donations in a day dedicated to rehabilitation and social connection.

Officials from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will also be present to register inmates without health insurance coverage, as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare.

At the centre of the event will be a friendly football match between Black Stars legends and inmates of the facility.

The initiative will also include the donation of 100 bags of rice, cooking oil, 24 footballs, and sets of jerseys to support both the inmates and sporting activities within the prison.

Among the expected personalities are Ghana football icon Abedi Ayew, former Bayern Munich defender Samuel Kuffour, Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, and former Black Stars players Anthony Baffoe, Augustine Arhinful, and Yussif Chibsah, among others. Owners of New Edubiase and Port City FC, Abdul Salam Yakubu and Ahmed Kwabena Nkrumah, are also expected to attend.

The event will be further enriched with musical performances from Ghanaian artistes including D Cryme, Praye, Stay Jay, and Patapaa.

Organisers say the initiative is designed to use sports and entertainment as tools for social inclusion, rehabilitation, and emotional support for inmates.

In addition to the football match and performances, a health screening exercise will be conducted for inmates.

This year’s outreach follows the inaugural edition held in April 2025, when Oasis Montessori School made donations to the prison. The programme has also received support from organisations such as JDK Travel & Tours Ltd, the Joan Gyan Foundation, Yes My Lord Company Ltd, and BuySimConnect.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10:00 GMT at the Nsawam Prison grounds.
