Amin Adam endorses Paul Afoko for NPP National Chairman

Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Mohammed Amin Adam, has thrown his support behind former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Paul Awentami Afoko, in the race for the party’s National Chairman position ahead of its internal elections.

Dr Amin Adam described Mr Afoko as the right candidate to help reorganise the party and position it for a return to power, stressing that the NPP needs experienced and capable leadership as it seeks to rebuild in opposition.

He made the endorsement during a courtesy visit by Mr Afoko and a delegation of NPP leaders and party officials to his private residence.

Explaining his decision, Dr Amin Adam said Mr Afoko possesses the leadership qualities, experience and competence needed to guide the party through its rebuilding process and prepare it for future electoral success.

“I support Paul Afoko for National Chairman,” he stated.

According to the former Finance Minister, leadership choices within the party should be based on competence and the ability to deliver results rather than popularity alone.

“We know the serious people who can bring us back to power. We do not follow the masses to choose someone to support; we support those we believe have the potential to win and lead the party,” he said.

Dr Amin Adam also reaffirmed his loyalty to the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, but maintained that Mr Afoko remains the best candidate to lead the party’s reorganisation efforts.

He said his confidence in Mr Afoko stems from their previous working relationship and his firsthand experience of his leadership abilities.

“I have worked with Paul Afoko, and I know he is competent. He can also help raise funds for the party because we need money as a party in opposition,” he added.

Mr Afoko has been touring the country as part of his campaign for the National Chairman position, promoting what he calls the “3Rs Agenda” — Reuniting, Rebuilding and Returning the NPP to power.

His campaign has focused on healing divisions that emerged after the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election, reconnecting with members who feel alienated or sidelined, and strengthening unity across the party’s ranks.

The former National Chairman has also pledged to empower polling station and constituency executives by improving their welfare, enhancing logistical support and increasing grassroots participation in the party’s decision-making processes.

According to Mr Afoko, these measures are critical to rebuilding the NPP’s organisational strength and laying the foundation for the party’s return to government.
