‘Black Stars’ Defence Is as Strong as Ghana’s Economy’ – Hon. Yaw Nsiah Sparks Debate at Dormaa Assembly

Hon. Yaw Nsiah, Assembly Member for the Antwirifo Electoral Area in the Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly, has compared the defensive strength of Ghana’s Black Stars to what he described as the resilience of the Ghanaian economy, saying the unity within the national team’s camp also reflects the strong relationship between the Dormaa Central Member of Parliament, Hon. John Jack, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Dominic Adoma Ameyaw.

Speaking during the first ordinary meeting of the third session of the fourth Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly, Hon. Yaw Nsiah said the Black Stars have regained the confidence of Ghanaians through their impressive performances.

According to him, there was a time when Ghanaians had to rely on complicated permutations and the outcomes of other matches to determine whether the national team would qualify for major tournaments.

He noted that the current situation is different, as the Black Stars have put themselves in a strong position through their performances.

He urged Ghanaians to continue supporting the team and expressed confidence that the Black Stars would defeat Croatia in Saturday’s World Cup fixture.

His remarks, however, drew an immediate response from fellow Assembly Member Hon. Nsia Yaw Thomas, popularly known as Kalusha, who rejected the comparison between the Black Stars’ form and the state of Ghana’s economy.

Hon. Thomas argued that there was little evidence to support claims that the economy is performing strongly under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.

While commending the Black Stars for their campaign in the ongoing World Cup, he also criticised Hon. Yaw Nsiah for failing to explain the absence of the Dormaa Central MP from the General Assembly meeting, noting that Hon. Yaw Nsiah serves as the MP’s Personal Assistant. He maintained that although the national team deserves praise for its performances, it is inaccurate to suggest that Ghana’s economy is currently thriving.
