Tension is high in Gomoa Maim in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region after a violent attack by suspected land guards left three people critically injured and parts of a chief’s palace vandalised.

According to Ebusuapanyin Kofi Botwey, the incident occurred while residents were celebrating a recent chieftaincy ruling. What began as a moment of jubilation quickly turned chaotic when more than 50 armed men reportedly stormed the gathering.

Speaking at a press conference, Botwey said the group, wielding guns, cutlasses, sticks and other weapons, disrupted the event and unleashed violence on the crowd. In the process, three people were severely injured, while the chief’s palace and nearby property were extensively damaged.

He described the attack as unprecedented in the community and appealed to the Central Regional Police Command, the Regional Minister, and the Inspector General of Police to urgently deploy security personnel to restore calm.

“Residents are living in fear and panic. We need increased police patrols to prevent further violence,” he said.

Eyewitnesses corroborated his account, claiming the attackers arrived from Kasoa and began firing shots, forcing people to flee for safety. They said the sudden gunfire brought celebrations to an abrupt end, leaving many traumatised.

“The whole community is gripped by fear,” one resident said. “We don’t know what might happen next, especially at night.”
The injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Esuohyia Hospital.

The case has been reported to the Gomoa Ngresi Police Station, and investigations are underway. However, no arrests have been made so far.
