Dormaa East NHIS Office Locked by Alleged NDC Supporters Amid Appointment Dispute

The Dormaa East District Office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has been forcibly closed by individuals believed to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area. The office was marked with a red bandana, signaling a protest by aggrieved party members.

In an exclusive interview with GIFTs News, Elder Richard Kwasi Asamoah, the Vice Chairman of the NDC in Dormaa East, confirmed the incident.

He explained that the Constituency executives had been tasked with nominating a candidate for the role of District Manager of the NHIS.

Initially, the Constituency organizer, Hon. Tweneboah Enock, was proposed for the position and had moved through the interview process, awaiting approval and appointment.

However, Elder Asamoah revealed that, just yesterday, they were informed that Enock had been replaced by Awuah Joshua—a move that triggered protests from local NDC youth.

The Vice Chairman further stated that he had learned that Hon. Racheal Owusuaa, the Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, played a key role in the decision to replace Enock.

According to Asamoah, Owusuaa cited an inability to work with Enock as the reason for the change.

As a result, the replacement sparked tensions, leading to the closure of the NHIS office by the protesting youths.

Asamoah also shared that this situation was not an isolated one.
He pointed to similar conflicts over other appointments, including the recent appointment of the NADMO Director, where decisions were reportedly being made outside the Constituency executives’ input.

These ongoing issues have left local NDC supporters frustrated and prompted protests, as they call for greater transparency and involvement in decision-making.

The Vice Chairman took the opportunity to appeal to regional party leaders to address these issues quickly. He warned that failure to resolve such disputes could negatively impact the NDC’s chances in upcoming elections.

Asamoah emphasized that party executives who feel sidelined may be less motivated to support the party during the campaign season.

He also expressed disappointment over the lack of a clear explanation for the rejection of Hon. Enock’s appointment, noting that the Constituency executives had presented him as a well-qualified candidate. Additionally, Asamoah condemned the closure of the NHIS office and urged for peace and order to be restored.

While acknowledging that the protest was orchestrated by some members of the NDC, Asamoah could not confirm who specifically led the action or issued the instructions.

He called on the youth involved to show restraint and engage in peaceful discussions in hopes of finding a resolution that promotes unity within the party.
