Deloitte Ghana has wrapped up its Earth Month celebrations with a lively and reflective Earth Month Awards Ceremony, marking a year-long initiative focused on promoting sustainability within the workplace.
The event, held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, brought together staff from various units to celebrate the growth and care given to office plants that were distributed in April 2025 as part of the firm’s Earth Month initiative.
Opening the ceremony, the Chief Sustainability Officer of Deloitte West Africa, Abena Biney, reflected on the symbolic journey of the plants over the past year.
She drew a thoughtful comparison between the plants and employees within the organisation, describing their early stages as similar to “associates” and “national service personnel.”
“Through consistent care, nurturing, and attention—much like professional development—some plants have flourished remarkably, while others continue to grow and evolve,” Mrs. Biney said.
To ensure fairness and credibility, the plants were assessed by an independent florist, who evaluated and scored each entry based on health, growth, and overall care.

At the end of the assessment, two teams emerged as winners.
The Assurance Unit was recognised for its plant “Blossom,” while the P&P Unit also took top honours with its entry named “Evergreen Bloom.”
As a reward for their efforts, both teams received a Dracaena plant, valued for its resilience, low maintenance, and calming qualities, along with a specially crafted art painting.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Biney echoed a familiar principle, saying, “the reward for hard work is more work.”
She explained that the additional plant presented to the winning teams was both a reward and a reminder of the continued responsibility to demonstrate care, consistency, and commitment.

She further encouraged staff to continue caring for their “office companions,” noting that the initiative not only helps create a greener workplace but also serves as a reminder of important life lessons such as growth, patience, and responsibility.
The Earth Month initiative once again highlighted Deloitte Ghana’s commitment to sustainability, employee engagement, and creating meaningful experiences that link personal development with environmental stewardship.
