A man believed to be in his late 50s has died after being knocked down by a vehicle while crossing the Mankessim–Cape Coast highway at Kormantse in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.

Eyewitnesses told GHOne News reporter Yaw Boagyan that the deceased, identified as Kobina Ebo from Abandze, appeared heavily intoxicated and was seen wandering in the middle of the road before the incident.
He was reportedly struck by a Stambic vehicle with registration number GW-1745-16, which was travelling from Takoradi towards Accra.
According to witnesses, the driver attempted to swerve to avoid him, but the victim reportedly staggered back into the path of the vehicle and was run over.
Some residents described him as a known heavy drinker in the community and said they did not blame the driver involved in the incident.
He was rushed to the Saltpond Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. He reportedly suffered severe injuries, including broken legs.

The Upper Kormantse Assemblyman, Hon. Gideon Okyere, said the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, as the deceased was reportedly returning home from Kormantse.
He described the stretch as an accident-prone area, noting that speeding vehicles have claimed several lives there over the years, including schoolchildren who cross the road daily.
According to him, the community has repeatedly appealed for the installation of speed ramps, but those requests have not yet been addressed.
He has since urged both drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution when using the highway, particularly in the Kormantse area.
The case has been reported to the Saltpond Police for investigation, while the body has been deposited at the Saltpond Government Hospital morgue for autopsy.
