Sissala West roads in poor condition, Buru chief appeals for government intervention

The Chief of the Buru Traditional Council in the Sissala West Constituency of the Upper West Region, Kuroru Abdul Rahama Kassim Baatah IV, has appealed to government to prioritise road infrastructure and basic social amenities in the area.

According to the chief, the poor state of roads in the constituency continues to affect farming activities and the movement of agricultural produce, despite the area’s major contribution to food production in Ghana.

Speaking during the “Thank You Tour” of National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the chief described the constituency as largely underdeveloped and deprived, despite its agricultural potential.

He noted that many communities in the area lack essential social amenities, a situation he said is negatively affecting the living conditions of residents.

The Buru chief explained that road networks linking several communities to the district capital remain in a deplorable condition and have seen little or no rehabilitation over the years.

According to him, the situation becomes even worse during the rainy season, when some communities are cut off because vehicles and motorbikes are unable to use the roads.

He said the poor roads also make it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to markets, resulting in losses and economic hardship.

“Since the establishment of these communities decades ago, the roads have never seen any major rehabilitation,” he stated.

Kuroru Abdul Rahama Kassim Baatah IV also highlighted the lack of electricity and other basic infrastructure in parts of the constituency, and appealed for the establishment of an agricultural service centre to support farmers and strengthen the local economy.

He further claimed that residents struggle to point to major development projects undertaken by successive governments or assemblies in the area.

The chief therefore called on government and the district assembly to urgently provide social amenities and infrastructure to improve the livelihoods of residents.

Residents who spoke during the engagement also expressed concern about the state of the roads, saying it continues to affect their daily lives and farming activities.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Sissala West, Abudu Fuseini Gbene, outlined some development projects undertaken in the constituency.

Addressing party supporters and residents, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia urged citizens to continue supporting and praying for President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government.

He assured residents that government remains committed to fulfilling its campaign promises and appealed for patience and continued cooperation.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia also thanked the people of Sissala West for their strong support for the NDC during the 2024 general elections.
