Tarkwa-Nsuaem NPP Members Plan Protest Over Alleged Electoral Irregularities

Some members, stakeholders and grassroots supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region have announced plans to stage a peaceful demonstration on Thursday, May 21, 2026, over alleged irregularities in the party’s ongoing internal electoral process.

The group says the protest is aimed at drawing attention to what they describe as the “hijacking and manipulation” of the constituency’s internal elections, particularly at the polling station level.

In a statement issued by the aggrieved members, they accused some constituency executives and their agents of violating the party’s electoral guidelines, despite measures introduced to ensure transparency, fairness and unity during the exercise.

“We, the aggrieved members, stakeholders and grassroots of the New Patriotic Party in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, wish to formally announce a peaceful demonstration against what we describe as the growing hijacking and manipulation of the party’s internal electoral process,” the statement said.

According to the group, concerns began from the registration stage through to the filing of nominations, vetting processes and the election of polling station executives.

They alleged that several party members had been subjected to unjustifiable exclusions, baseless disqualifications, intimidation and unfair treatment during the process.

The group further claimed that the party’s electoral guidelines had been disregarded by some supervisory officials overseeing the elections in the constituency.

“Party members have observed explicit acts of intimidation, oppression and gross disregard for the guidelines introduced to protect the integrity of the process,” the statement added.

The aggrieved members also expressed disappointment over what they described as the regional leadership’s failure to respond adequately to petitions and complaints submitted through the party’s internal channels.

According to them, repeated attempts to seek intervention and administrative redress have yielded little response, deepening frustration among affected members.

They argued that the alleged irregularities have compromised the credibility of the process and undermined the principles of transparency and inclusiveness within the constituency.

Despite the grievances, the group reaffirmed its commitment to the unity and electoral success of the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“As concerned members of the party, we believe that the NPP requires unity ahead of the 2028 general elections. However, unity cannot prevail amidst injustice, lack of transparency, intimidation, exclusion and unfair treatment,” the statement noted.

The demonstrators are demanding the annulment of the ongoing electoral process, an independent investigation into the conduct of the elections and the organisation of fresh polls in all affected areas under the supervision of the party’s National Elections Committee.

They insisted that their actions are intended to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 elections, maintaining that “we have an election to win come 2028.”
